TourismMadison County Covered Bridge Festival - This hugely popular event is on the second full weekend in October. Thousands of visitors attend annually to visit the remaining six covered bridges, enjoy crafts, antiques and a wide assortment of food.
Birthplace of John Wayne - This small house was home to one of the worlds favorite movie stars. Open to the public year-round, it is decorated with authentic period furnishings and a large public collection of John Wayne memorabilia. Future plans include the construction of a modern museum and learning center.

Parks & Recreation300 acre Pammel State Park offers camping, rental cabins and the Middle River ford where drivers can pilot their vehicles through the waters.
Winterset City Park offers 76 acres of manicured park, shelter houses, Cutler-Donahoe Covered Bridgee, unique hedge maze and Clarks Tower. Adjacent to the City Park is a modern camping area with hookups.
Lakeview Country Club 3724 Lakeview Lane (515-462-9962) The 9-hole “Lakeview” course at the Lakeview Country Club facility in Winterset, Iowa features 2,880 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 35. The course rating is 33.7 and it has a slope rating of 110. Lakeview golf course opened in 1946. T.J. Orton manages the course as the Superintendent.
