About Madison County

Our organization is dedicated to identifying, improving and acting on opportunities to create an environment conducive to increasing wealth potential for those living and working in Madison County.

Madison County is conveniently located just off the two major Interstate highways in Iowa, I-80 (east/west) and I-35 (north/south). The county seat of Winterset is just 30 minutes from Des Moines, state capitol of Iowa. It is easily accessible by both U.S. Highway 169 or Highway 92 which criss-cross the county.

Madison County has a highly capable and growing labor force. We are the second-fastest growing county in the state of Iowa. We are known world-wide as home to the birthplace of John Wayne, one of the world's favorite movie stars; and six remaining covered bridges made famous by the book and movie “Bridges of Madison County.”
